About this Event

More Más Marami Arts and Convergence Arts Center are thrilled to be hosting our second annual emerging arts festival, More Más Marami Fest!

Join us for new theatrical scripts, dance performances, poetry readings, and more! All art presented at More Más Marami Fest is created by local, emerging artists from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.

As a theatre collective, More Más Marami Arts seeks to make MORE art and make it MORE accessible for everyone in San Jose and beyond. We hope to offer San Jose communities and neighbors an exciting weekend filled with laughter, thoughtful artistic talkbacks, and most of all -- meaningful stories.

OUR LINE UP INCLUDES:

  • Theatrical scripts produced by More Más Marami Arts about humanity and true love, mystery in the Pixie Isles, the reality of friendship in adulthood, and a magical world of Mexican folklore
  • New performances as part of Tresspass Theatre, our initiative to create theater by community, in community spaces.

TICKETS:

  • Single Day Tickets: We aim to make theatre accessible to everyone so our tickets are offered at a low price of $5 per day of the festival. Buy a single day day ticket and get access to the whole day of performances.
  • 3-Day Festival Pass: We are also offering a 3-day festival pass for $30 so you can watch the whole weekend of performances!
  • Check out the agenda below for a schedule of performances! More performances will be added!
  • Please note that there will be 60 seats available on a first-come, first-serve basis and there will be standing room.
  • Need ADA accommodations? Email us at [email protected].

Follow us and share our posts on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Any support you can share is greatly appreciated! We hope to see you at the festival!

More Más Marami Fest uplifts the art of local, emerging artists from BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. The festival seeks to give artists a place to develop and showcase their work and to present new artistic talent to San Jose and the greater South Bay Area. The festival is funded by the Abierto Program and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. More Más Marami Arts is fiscally sponsored by the School of Arts & Culture.

MORE ABOUT THE ART THAT WILL BE PRESENTED AT THE FESTIVAL:
More Más Marami Arts presents its 4th annual Writers Launchpad! Writers Launchpad features emerging local writers and their new scripts, leading up to a series of staged readings with audience feedback.

Liminal by Lauren Doyle, directed by Stephanie Barajas

  • What if…you were always stuck between two thoughts, two moments, two places in time? Liminal is the intimate autobiographical journey of one artist through poverty, parenthood, disability, and trauma, which begs the question: do we ever really get better?

Soft by Mark Alexander, directed by Anthony Doan

  • Thanksgiving is supposed to bring families together. Especially when your most problematic member passes. But with so much pain, guilty/repressed feelings and trauma, Thanksgiving might break them apart.

The Soulmate Play by Anthony Doan, directed by Jacob Yoder-Schrock

  • This isn't really an Aristotelian play. Subverting traditional conventions of storytelling through meta-theatricality, grandiosity, and an ice-cream-bucketful of heart, The Soulmate Play pulls the curtain up on star-crossed lovers and their journeys through time and space to find the rightful purpose of love.

Tío Pepe's Red Balloon by Enrique Muñoz, directed by Melissa Lochsin

  • Roberto and Jerry’s love created their beautiful family. But when one of them dies, will their family continue to exist?

Tresspass Theatre: Why do you have to go to the theatre? Trespass Theatre is More Más Marami taking theatre from the stage to your neighborhood.

The Guadalupe Theatre Project, by Antonella Doblanovic & Company

  • An environmental arts and movement piece.

Maldisyon by Ara Chowdhury & Company

  • A devised short play that’s centered around a mother and daughter, and the Spanish Priest that now haunts them.

Five Sundays by Kimberly Piet & Company

  • A one-act play that explores vulnerability and community while reconnecting with one’s community.
