About this Event
Mordants are essential to natural dyeing, used to prep fabric to create more vibrant & long-lasting colors. When mordants are applied intentionally, using thickened mordant paste, we can create beautiful printed fabrics.
In this four hour workshop, participants will learn
how to make mordant paste and apply the paste
to fabric using provided & self-created stencils,
blocks, and paintbrushes. The class will also
provide a primer on how to make natural dyes
from local plants and use mordants for immersion
dyeing.
Participants will leave the day with a patterned
cotton bandana of their own creation & the
knowledge to make mordant paste at home. We
will have plenty of fabric scraps to experiment on
as well, creating some potential materials for
quilters & sewers! Participants are welcome to
bring small cotton or linen garments from home
to experiment on as well.
