What types of wildlife are active when the sun goes down and the stars come out? Join Ranger Stephanie for a 2.5 mile guided night hike. We will listen for the several species of owls that are typically found in the park. We will look at the stars and try to identify constellations if it is a clear night sky. Participants will learn about the birds and wildlife that are active at night in the park. We will likely see the glow of spider and animal eyes beside the trails. The park hours are sunrise to sunset year-round, therefore this is a special opportunity for visitors to see the park at night with a ranger. Un-guided use of the park after sunset is prohibited.
Participants can bring flashlights with them for walking on trails with possible tree roots and rocks during the hike. If using a flashlight, please be respectful of others around you and not shine your light in their faces. Participants will have better vision at night if they let their eyes adjust without artificial light from flashlights being turned on/used constantly. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for this hike and bring a water bottle for drinking. Participants should plan on meeting Ranger Stephanie at the Bluebird Barn at the main entrance off Kelly Lane by 5:45pm.
