Moonlight March - a night-time fundraising walk along the iconic 15-mile Round Sheffield Walk route in aid of Shelter.
About this Event

Moonlight March is a night-time fundraising walk along the iconic 15-mile Round Sheffield Walk, taking place on the Spring Equinox. Starting and finishing at Endcliffe Park, this event offers a genuine physical challenge in a supportive, flexible format — open to adults, families, and dogs on leads.

About the event

The route follows the well-known Round Sheffield Walk, passing through Sheffield’s parks and green spaces and staying largely within the city, with regular access to roads and transport links. This makes it ideal for those looking for a challenge while appreciating the reassurance of an urban route and the option to step out early if needed.

The walk will:

  • Start at 6pm from Endcliffe Park
  • Follow a marked 15-mile route
  • Be supported by a lead guide
  • Allow participants to walk at their own pace using provided maps
  • Include checkpoints staffed by Shelter volunteers offering refreshments
  • Finish back at Endcliffe Park by 1am

This is not a paced or regimented walk. Participants are free to move independently, take breaks, and manage their own pace throughout.

Who can take part
  • Adults aged 18+
  • Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult (maximum ratio 1 adult to 2 children)
  • Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead
  • Places are limited

Ticket options
  • Adult ticket – £20 registration fee | Minimum fundraising target: £60
  • Small family ticket (1 adult + up to 2 children) – £30 registration fee | Minimum fundraising target: £100
  • Large family ticket (2 adults + up to 4 children) – £40 registration fee | Minimum fundraising target: £200

Fundraising for Shelter

Moonlight March is a fundraising event in aid of Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity. Funds raised will help support people facing homelessness in Sheffield and beyond. Minimum fundraising targets help cover event costs and ensure the maximum possible impact for Shelter’s work.

What to expect on the night
  • Registration at Endcliffe Park
  • A lead guide and volunteers accompanying
  • A printed route map for each participant
  • Checkpoints with refreshments and encouragement
  • Some challenging, hilly sections of the route
  • Shelter staff and volunteers at the finish line until 1am
  • A free bobble hat

Participants may complete the full route or leave early if needed.

Participant Responsibility Declaration & Event Terms

By taking part in the Moonlight March, I acknowledge that I am participating voluntarily in a long-distance walk taking place in the evening and at night, along public footpaths, parks and roads.

I agree to take responsibility for my own safety and wellbeing throughout the event, and for the safety and wellbeing of any children or dependants attending with me under my booking.

In particular, I understand and agree that:

  • I am responsible for safely crossing roads and following instructions from event volunteers where provided
  • I will stay on the designated route and public paths and will not enter private land
  • Any dogs I bring will be kept on a lead at all times
  • I will act considerately towards local residents and other path users, including keeping noise to a reasonable level
  • I will wear suitable clothing and footwear, bring a torch and carry any personal Medic*tion or equipment I may need
  • If I leave the walk early for any reason, I will inform a Shelter volunteer or the event organiser as soon as possible

I understand that the event takes place on public land and that Shelter and event volunteers cannot be responsible for hazards inherent to outdoor walking, including uneven ground, weather conditions, or shared use of paths.

I confirm that I am physically able to take part in this event, and that I will not continue if I feel unwell or unsafe to do so.
