MOONFLOWER by PORTALS

Featuring: Honeysuckle

A moonlit gathering for Black, Brown, and Indigenous women rooted in night-blooming plant wisdom, live music & movement, and collective care.

About This Gathering

Moonflower is a recurring gathering created for Black, Brown, and Indigenous women to rest, reconnect, and experience the beauty, sensuality, sweetness & healing of being in community with one another.

Each gathering is guided by a seasonal plant ally, inviting us into deeper relationship with ourselves, the earth, and the wisdom that emerges when we gather intentionally.

For our July gathering, we will be exploring Honeysuckle.

Known for its intoxicating fragrance and sweet nectar, Honeysuckle is a plant associated with pleasure, vitality, attraction, reciprocity, and nourishment. It reminds us that sweetness is not frivolous. It is essential. Honeysuckle teaches us to notice what feeds us, to honor the relationships that sustain us, and to allow ourselves to receive the beauty, support, and abundance already present in our lives.

As summer reaches its fullness, we gather to explore what nourishes us, what we are calling in, and how we can cultivate lives rooted in joy, connection, and belonging.

The evening begins with a guided communal experience featuring herbal tea, breathwork, journaling, reflection, and somatic practices inspired by the energetics of Honeysuckle. Together, we will explore the medicine and symbolism of the flower while engaging in practices that support restoration, embodied awareness, and collective care.

As the evening unfolds, Moonflower transitions into celebration.

Live offerings from a DJ, vocalist, and aerial artists will create space for sensuality, healing, movement, expression, laughter, release, and joy. Dance if you feel called. Connect with someone new. Witness and be witnessed. Move in whatever way feels most authentic to your body.

This is an invitation to gather, to remember, and to enjoy the beauty of being together.

Moss and Melanin Partnership & Experience

This Moonflower season is held in collaboration with Moss and Melanin, featuring a guided outdoor community hike led by Lauren of Lo Holistics alongside Mikayla of Black Coffee Northwest and Afro Sapphix.

As an additional opportunity for connection during the Honeysuckle season, the community hike will take place on Saturday, July 25.

Together, this collaboration is designed as a cross-pollination of communities, inviting participants into shared relationship, land-based presence, and deeper connection beyond the Moonflower gathering itself.

Rooted in relationship with the land, this experience offers an opportunity to slow down, walk together, engage in meaningful conversation, and cultivate connection through witnessing, reflection, and collective presence in nature.

Additional details regarding location, timing, and registration will be announced soon.

Questions to Carry With You:

As you prepare for Moonflower, we invite you to spend time with these reflections.

  • What sweetness have I been overlooking?
  • Where in my life am I being invited to receive rather than strive?
  • What does feeling nourished actually feel like in my body?
  • Which relationships, communities, and practices help me remember who I am?
  • What am I ready to welcome with an open heart this summer?
