The Journey Museum invites you to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Black Hills towns with a special presentation by historian David A. Wolff.
During the Black Hills gold rush, not everyone arrived hoping to strike it rich through mining. Many sought opportunity by establishing towns to serve the growing population. This program explores the founders' ambitions, the communities they created, and the reasons some towns prospered while others faded into history.
Featuring stories from Custer, Deadwood, Lead, Spearfish, Rapid City, and other communities, the presentation examines how Black Hills towns developed and adapted during their first 50 years.
Presented by David A. Wolff, Professor Emeritus at Black Hills State University and author of several books on Black Hills history, this program offers an engaging look at the people, places, and decisions that helped shape the region.
