This Month’s Destination: South Korea
The Vegetarian by Han Kang follows Yeong-hye, a seemingly ordinary woman in South Korea whose decision to stop eating meat after a series of disturbing dreams begins to unravel her relationships, identity, and place within her rigid family and society. Told through the perspectives of those around her, the novel explores themes of control, violence, desire, and the struggle for autonomy in deeply unsettling and poetic ways.
