Monthly Beaufort Peer Support Group
What to Expect
Safe & Confidential Environment: A fundamental rule is that "what is said in the meeting stays there" to ensure everyone feels safe to speak freely.
Format: Meetings typically last 90 minutes to two hours. They usually begin with introductions (names and pronouns) and a review of ground rules.
Participation: Attendees are encouraged to share what brought them there, but there is no obligation to speak; you are welcome to just listen.
Small Groups: Depending on the chapter's size, the meeting may break into smaller affinity groups (e.g., parents in one group, LGBTQ+ individuals in another) to allow for more intimate discussion.
Topics: Discussions range from personal "coming out" stories and family acceptance to specific topics like "getting through the holidays". Some meetings may also feature guest speakers.
Who Attends
Meetings are open to the public and typically include:
Parents and Family Members: Seeking support on how to best affirm and advocate for their LGBTQ+ loved ones.
LGBTQ+ Individuals: Looking for self-acceptance, community, or advice on navigating relationships.
Allies: Friends or community members wanting to learn how to better support the LGBTQ+ community.
