Join us for another oddball suburban adventure in Monmouth County!Our planned 15 mile hike will focus on all sorts of different things in a point to point between Red Bank and Long Branch NJ!
For this trip, we will meet at Red Bank Station at 8:45 am. There is a little leeway; we will be taking the 9:15 train from Red Bank to Long Branch. Those who wish can drive to Long Branch station and take a train back at the end and meet there at 9:30.
Once we get to Long Branch, we'll head east a bit and walk the boardwalk at Long Branch to the south, and then a little ways further to Takanassee Lake Park.
We'll head west from there, and then take the trails through Monmouth University.
We'll pass though several of these open properties heading north and west, then walk six blocks on streets to Sorrentino Park. We'll try to make our way by a school from there, and then onto trails of Franklin Lake Park.
We'll continue to meander north with only a little road walk in between sections and reach Wolf Hill Recreation Area. A short road bit from here will take us to Maria Gatta Park.
After this, the plan is to walk through the lands of Fort Monmouth. Public roads should provide us with views of the properties that are reportedly soon to be demolished.
We'll see as much of this as we can, and then make our way as best we can on the old New Jersey Southern rail spur line to the west, to the main track of that line, still active.
From here, we'll simply continue hiking to the north on parallel roads or through lots, whatever way we can, to parallel this line back into Red Bank.
