Monkeys Fist

Monkeys Fist is the trio of Steve Flude, Colin Devey and John Horsey, performing traditional and contemporary folk and maritime songs and sea shanties, including audience participation choruses!
The group has performed in innumerable folk clubs and festivals across the UK, including Falmouth, Liverpool, Harwich, Saltburn, Scarborough, Whitby and Middlesbrough.
International Festival performances have included several festivals in the Netherlands, Germany and Ireland.
The group are committed supporters of the Royal National lifeboat Institute and set aside the last weekend in September each year to sing in Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire to raise money for the local lifeboat. In 2019 the group were presented with a commemorative certificate by the RNLI for raising more than £5000 for the cause.

COLIN DEVEY
A Yorkshireman living in Normanton, Colin is one of the founder members of the group, being there at its beginning in 2000. His rich and powerful voice is the foundation of Monkey’s Fists’ unique sound.
As the only member of the group who has actually worked at sea, as a navigating officer, Colin also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience which comes through in his interpretation of maritime songs from an extensive repertoire.
STEVE FLUDE
Another Yorkshireman, from Sheffield, Steve’s strong and distinctive vocals also provide the power which means the group can be heard in a wide range of settings without PA! Steve’s rendering of songs such as ‘Sweet Thames’ show his more mellow and sensitive side.
JOHN HORSEY
Along with Steve, John was a member of the Sheffield-based shanty group ‘Sheafknot’.
John provides the group’s musical accompaniment on guitar, concertina (baritone McCann duet), occasional harmonica and bodhran, together with both bass and high vocal harmonies.
This will be a great night of rollicking energetic songs for the audience to join in with and go home uplifted!
