About this Event
Monika Plioplyte’s exhibition “I for Nested Pattern” is currently on view on the Davis Center’s third floor. This space is dedicated to rotating exhibitions presenting artists and shows from the regions of the center's research focus.
In the photo-based series “I for Nested Pattern,” Monika draws parallels between traditional Lithuanian weaving patterns and the universal language encoded in the structural patterns of human DNA. Through this interplay, she forges a link connecting past and present, self and collective. Like in most of her body of work, the complexity and duality of her national identity emerge unannounced. To some, it is invisible; to others — those uprooted — it is loud and bold.
Monika will walk the audience through her creative process, methods, themes, and sources of inspiration. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session, in which she will be joined by the special guest, Gediminas Urbonas, a Lithuanian artist, professor, and educator. Reception to follow.
