Money 101 – Financial Literacy Program for Women
OVERVIEW
Your relationship to money changes over your lifetime. Each stage, from birth to death, has key factors to consider. Understanding these factors allows you to navigate them all successfully!
This 5-session, small group, highly interactive webinar series, will walk you through key tasks for each life stage:
- Early Years – Get comfortable with money
- Young adult (college & 20s) – Semi-Independence
- Adulthood – Build and Protect Your Wealth, Marriage & Divorce
- Adult Challenges – Planning for Retirement Savings, Budgeting, IRAs/401Ks, Health Insurance
- End of Life – Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning
Designed and facilitated by SCORE NYC mentor and financial educator Diane Drey, each session will include instruction and small breakout rooms for active participation and discussion.
After these immersive sessions, you will have the resources and knowledge to:
- Apply for Social Security Number for a newborn
- Open financial vehicles for your child’s benefit including: US Savings Bonds, College 529 Savings Accounts, etc.
- Discuss basic economics with your child, including formulating a budget, different types of bank accounts, and understanding the pitfalls of credit cards
- Outline how to build and measure wealth by preparing a Personal Financial Statement
- Explain the impact your career choice will impact economics
- Understand prenuptial agreements and how to manage money as a couple
- Discuss how finances are divided in Divorce
- Summarize when and how to apply for and/or start Social Security and Medicare and how much you will need from other resources to supplement your retirement income
- Prepare for End-of-Life challenges–Organizing your affairs, Will, and Trusts, exercising control after you are gone
RULES OF THE ROAD – Please be certain you can:
- Attend all 5 sessions in the course. This represents a commitment to yourself and others in the group
- Work in front of a full screen computer, allowing screen sharing in a quiet area to allow you to concentrate
- Agree to complete pre-work before each session. Optimizes your learning experience by enabling you to discuss concepts and examples with your peers and instructor. Pre-work should take approximately 2 hours before the second, third, fourth and fifth sessions.
- Use calculator or application if needed to make math calculations.
- Complete the PRE-CLASS Questionnaire upon enrollment. The Questionnaire helps assess your current financial knowledge so sessions meet your needs. You will receive the link to the questionnaire AFTER enrollment. If you do not complete the questionnaire, you will not be enrolled in the program and your fee will be returned.
REGISTRATION
The Life Cycles course is the fifth segment of the Money 101 program for women.* The course includes five interactive 2-hour Zoom sessions.

The Money 101 series was designed for women who want to take the fear out of finance (others who wish to attend are welcome).
INSTRUCTOR: DIANE DREY
Diane was formerly CEO of a New York Metro bottled-water manufacturing and distributing company. Her expertise is in financial planning and marketing. She holds an MBA in finance and has over 30-years’ experience running her own firm.
She light-heartedly calls herself the "Money Lady" and focuses on business owners achieving profitability.
