The Monday Night Big Band is a biweekly performance as a part of the Capital Jazz Society Jazz series. It finds its roots in the same tradition as the Village Vanguard in New York City. The band is made up of a variety of musicians in the area and is different each week.
Dr. Madsen is a highly accomplished trombonist and music educator with degrees from the University of Missouri, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Illinois. At the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO), he directs jazz ensembles and combos, coordinates major jazz events, and teaches low brass and improvisation. He has an extensive performance background across jazz, pop, and classical genres, having worked with artists like Aretha Franklin and Frank Valli, and ensembles such as the Jim Widner Big Band and Omaha Symphony. A sought-after clinician and guest artist, Dr. Madsen has performed and taught across the U.S. and internationally. He has presented at major music conferences and recorded with groups like The Big Bad Bones and The Continental Trombone Quartet.
