It’s Monday, which means it’s time for the weekly Tennent’s Laughter Lounge OPEN MIC, a totally free night of stand-up comedy featuring some of the best up-and-coming talent Scotland has to offer, plus some pros trying out new material. Your host for the evening is award-winning Glasgow comedian Daniel Petrie. In addition to being crowed 2023 Comedian of the Year at the prestigious Leicester Mercury Awards, he’s also been a finalist on So You Think You’re Funny and the Chortle Student Comedy Awards, as well as appearing on the BBC New Comedy Awards.
“Impressively relaxed and likeable… (…surprisingly dark for such a nice boy)” – The Scotsman
“Scarily good” – Daniel Sloss
Just want to watch? All are welcome free of charge, but please respect the show: during performances please be seated and don’t talk or heckle.
Interested in performing? Sign-up for each show opens from Tuesday the week before, message our FB page and 5 minute slots will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Attempts to sign-up at the wrong time or via the wrong channels will be ignored.
Doors to the bar open at 5pm, doors to the comedy room downstairs open at 7pm.
**PLEASE READ CAREFULLY**
• Doors to the bar open at 5pm, doors to the comedy room open at 7pm, the show starts at 7:30pm. No late admission.
• This is NOT a standing event. All audience members must be seated while the performance is underway, unless getting up to leave the room.
• You may have to share a table. You may not be able to sit together if the remaining chairs available are spread out. If it is important to you to sit with people you know, we recommend arriving as early as possible.
• If you are arranging on behalf of a large group of people, please make sure everyone is aware talking is not permitted during performances. Hen parties and stag dos, this is probably not the event for you.
• Please don’t talk or heckle during the performances; it is very distracting for both the performer and other audience members. Some performers (usually the host) may invite audience interaction, but otherwise please let the comedians do the talking. Heckling does not ‘help the show’. Think of it like cinema rules: laughter, cheers, applause are all great, but talking or yelling out is not. And another cinema rule…
• Please put your phone on silent. Photos are fine but please no video or flash photography.
• These shows are for people aged 18 and over. You may be asked to show ID if you do not look of age.
• Tennent’s Laughter Lounge does not necessarily agree or disagree with the opinions and viewpoints expressed by the comedians. Acts are booked based on their ability to make people laugh, beyond that we respect freedom of expression. If you disagree or are offended by what you hear, you are free to express this by not laughing, by leaving, or by respectfully raising your objections with the act after the show or via social media. You may not interrupt an on-going performance.
• Exceptions to rules are at the discretion of Tennent’s Laughter Lounge. Audience members who repeatedly break these rules will be asked to leave.
RULES FOR PERFORMERS
• You’ll get five minutes unless you’ve been booked to do longer. 10s and hosting spots are by invitation only, they can’t be applied for.
• When you’re on stage keep a close eye on where the host is, he will be timing everyone. If they flash a phone light at you, you need to wrap it up.
• Please try to get here for the start of the show. Message the showrunner if you can’t make it.
• You’re not obliged to stay to the end or invite people to come watch, but doing both these things really helps make the show better for everyone.
• You can request whether you go early or late, but it’ll be on a first come first serve basis at the host’s discretion. These requests must be made no less than a few hours before the show.
• If you need to drop out please message the host as soon as possible. You may not arrange your own replacement. Serial drop-outs will be given lower priority for spots. No-shows won’t be invited back.
• If we’re low on audience please be supportive of your fellow acts and sit up front, give them your full attention.
• Your material must be your own, you cannot use jokes performed by other comedians.
