Get ready to experience thousands of butterflies fluttering all around you!Watch these butterflies rest among the eucalyptus trees in the Pacific Grove on their migration south! Afterward, we will head to a delicious restaurant for lunch. We will cap off the day with a beach stroll at low tide, perfect for viewing the tide pools and colorful sea creatures!
What to expect:
Spend a day in beautiful Pacific Grove in Monterey County. We'll walk the butterfly sanctuary, taking in the uniqueness of this special experience. This short but beautiful walk will have you surrounded by the majestic and mysterious monarch butterflies. It is a haven during their late fall-winter migration and will be unlike anything you've ever seen before!
Butterflies:
We start the day with a walk where we will get to experience the return of the monarchs! The Pacific Grove Monarch Sanctuary in Monterey County is the largest overwintering site for monarch butterflies, and offers the best viewing opportunities. These butterflies typically arrive in late-October and leave in early March. We're going at the the prime viewing time, during the peak week! Picture this: tree branches and leaves covered with tons and tons of butterflies, everywhere you look! It is a must see experience, and something you will never forget.
Lunch Reservation:
After viewing the butterflies and working up an appetite, we'll go to a local seafood restaurant to enjoy late lunch with the group. Fishwife is a delicious spot just down the street, so we won't have to go far. Here's what the reviews say, "Fishwife is a seafood restaurant that offers an extensive selection of fresh seafood dishes. Our menu features a variety of sustainably sourced fish and shellfish, prepared with care and attention to detail. From classic fish and chips to grilled octopus, our dishes are designed to delight seafood lovers of all kinds." If you're not a seafood lover, don't worry as they have other options as well.
Tidepools:
Once we finish lunch, we'll walk it off by going down to Point Pinos. The lowest tide is -0.59 at 4:21 PM on this day, so we'll be in for some epic great tide pooling right before sunset! Don't let the beautiful views of the Pacific Grove and Point Pinos Lighthouse distract you from the gems just beneath the ocean's surface. Point Pinos in Pacific Grove, also known as the Great Tide Pool, is one of the most gorgeous and populated tide pool habitats in the world and are even visible during high tides.
