The Rousseau Space is a solo show space inside Creative Spark Gallery at Englewood Row curated by Cheryl Moran. This month we are featuring Martha E. Lewis works in both abstract and realism, 2D works on paper as well as sculpture and miniature diorama. Her work has been exhibited at the Universities and in group memberships shows in the Las Vegas Art Museum, Blue Springs Art Show and Pine Ridge Arts in Canada where she was on the arts council. As a sculpture she works in a representational style to capturing the world in both its beauty and complexity. Her work asks the viewer to take time to stop and look. She shares quiet moments and scenes from everyday life that are often unnoticed with sometimes a touch of fantasy. She writes “My approach involves careful observation, a strong understanding of values, and a meticulous attention to detail. I often employ glazing techniques to build layers of paint and create a sense of depth and atmosphere…I strive to capture the emotional impact of my subjects. Martha E. Lewis was born in Texas though much of her work reflects her time spent in Tachicawa, Japan in elementary and middle school (fourth through six grade and half of seventh grade). She has BA in Elementary Education and in Fine Arts at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, with emphasis in Sculpture, Photography, Printmaking and minor in Mathematics. She has had many adventures. For example, while in Canada become a Girl Guide Leader of Ontario Canada. Presently, she lives in Independence Missouri and very interested in getting involved in the community and learning about this beautiful state.
