MODM: Hearts of Darkness & Jill, Uncredited

To celebrate Oscar fever infecting the hearts and minds of the world, Normal Cinema Club presents a month of movies about da movies. In our second screening, we're teaming up with The Shankill Screen for a double bill about the lives and deaths that unfold behind the scenes.

HEARTS OF DARKNESS: A FILMMAKER'S APOCALYPSE , directed by Eleanor Coppola, George Hickenlooper, & Fax Bahr, details the making of Apocalypse Now, and Francis Ford Coppola's descent into near-insanity as he committed to his bold expansive vision. Its difficult production has become enshrined in legend, with tales of Marlon Brando's rascalry known across the land. Eleanor Coppola's on-set footage captures the vast scale of the production in an intimate and loving way. The talking head interviews shot 10 or so years after the fact capture an interesting dichotomy, the sombre reflection of the agony of the production, versus the adrenaline-driven chaos charging through the shoot.

JILL, UNCREDITED, chronicles the career of Jill Goldston, the most prolific (ever!) extra in film and TV. Through compiling her appearances, the film becomes a ghostly document of a life on the fringes, and the roles women often assume in cinema. Unlike the high-octane disaster and ominous bad omens of Hearts of Darkness, this short is a sweet tribute to a person rarely seen, and a role often unacknowledged.

Doors will open at 7.30pm, with the first film beginning shortly after 8pm. There will be a short break before the feature. This is a strictly 18+ event.

SHANKILL SCREEN ACCESS INFORMATION:

Please note the screening space is on the 2nd floor and at this time unfortunately has no wheelchair access. Cyclists can store their bikes in the foyer in the main building.

For drivers:
The car park remains open all night. Park at ‘Northumberland Street Car Park’ behind Shankill Mission.
Walk alleyway in front of leisure centre.
Turn left on Shankill Road.
Main entrance to the building is 20m on the left.
