We are excited to invite you to the inaugural symposium hosted by the Disability Culture Research Group (DisCReg). This event promises a deep dive into the rich and varied dimensions of disability culture, offering perspectives that seek to go beyond disconnected models of disability and instead thrive in the interconnected nature of lived realities that make up Disability culture.

DisCReg is a vibrant collective of researchers at all career stages, unified by a commitment to understanding and advancing disability through a broad and inclusive lens. Our group includes members with lived experiences of disability and allies dedicated to advocating for disability rights, with a particular emphasis on centring the voices of minoritized genders. We are proud to include scholars from across the UK and globally, fostering a collaborative environment where diverse insights and backgrounds intersect.

Symposium Highlights:

  • Presentations from Disability Researchers: Engage with groundbreaking work presented by disability studies researchers at various stages in their research career. DisCReg's symposium will not only explore the intersections of medicine, humanities, arts, and business within disability culture but also emphasize the importance of considering diverse cultural perspectives, such as the bi-cultural insights from Aotearoa (New Zealand).
  • Global Contributions: Hear from researchers around the world who will join us both in person and online, sharing international perspectives and expanding the conversation on disability culture.
  • Hybrid Format: Our event offers a flexible hybrid format, allowing participants to attend in person or virtually from anywhere in the world. This approach ensures inclusivity and broad participation, enabling a diverse range of voices to join the discussion.

We welcome faculty, students, and industry professionals globally to join us for this insightful event. Our agenda will highlight the diversity of research within DisCReg and encourage dialogue that embraces the plurality of approaches necessary for the field.
