About this Event
Emute Lab Instruments is a project from the Experimental Music Technologies Lab at the University of Sussex, UK. We're taking music technology research from our group and realising it in the form of hybrid digital/analogue musical instruments. Our first product, uSEQ, brings together the worlds of analog and digital computing, bringing livecoding (and algorave) into modular synthesis.
Livecoding is way of using specially designed progrramming languages as expressive musical instruments. It opens up massive possibilities for sequencing, CV processing amd performance in modular synthesis. Livecoding culture has spread worldwide over the past decade or so, and has morphed into algorave, where musicians livecode improvised electronic music in clubs.
We'll be running livecoding workshops with uSEQ, between 15:30 and 18:00. Depending on numbers, we might run a single workshop or split this time into two workshops. If you sign up then we'll let you know as soon as we can about the exact timetable.
In the workshop, you’ll explore the features of the uSEQ module, and try out some basic sequencing, signal processing and performance techniques. The workshop will give you the fundamental skills to explore livecoding techniques in the future.
We'll have some modular systems available for the workshop, or you can bring your own. Please bring a laptop, with a USB-A port (or dongle), to connect to the module. You'll need a Chrome-based browser to run the code editor.
