Please read below for further details:Stoke Canon is a model railway showcasing the beauty of the Great Western Railway in the days of steam, set in scenes typical of the West Country. Engineers had to overcome the challenges of building a railroad across steep hills and over river valleys. Tunnels and cuttings, viaducts, rivers and estuaries all feature on this layout.
Built in micro-size N-scale, this layout shows a number of typical scenes from Devon and Cornwall. A DCC system of electronics allow all locomotives to be fitted with sound, a feature many of us will fondly remember on steam trains of old. Other features such as firebox-flicker have also been added for that extra realism.
Stoke Canon station did once exist, where the Exe Valley line carried trains to Dulverton, joining the main line just outside of Exeter. Although this featured layout is fictitious, many of the buildings are modelled on real examples from East Devon, particularly the Otter Valley. Farm buildings and cottages feature in the modelling, along with a town loosely based on Totnes. All buildings and structures such as tunnel faces, bridges and viaducts are all scratch-built and weathered appropriately for the period set in the early 1960s.
This model railway will be featured in Railway Modeller magazine this summer.
