The Mississippi River and West River Parkway is a host to many events and festivals throughout the year. Discover one of Minnesota’s most culturally significant landscapes through a guided interpretive tour of the Owámniyomni project —a place where history, ecology, and Indigenous resilience converge. This immersive experience invites participants to engage with the Dakota story of Owámniyomni, the place of turbulent waters, known today as St. Anthony Falls. Long before industrial development, this site was a vital gathering place, a center of trade, and a sacred site for Dakota people.
Participants gain a deeper understanding of how the Owámniyomni project is reclaiming narrative space, restoring relationships with the land, and creating a model for Indigenous-led development. This tour offers a meaningful opportunity for festival and event leaders to learn how place-based storytelling and Indigenous partnership can enrich community experiences across Minnesota.
