The Maine Mineral & Gem Museum is heading to Bangor for the annual Maine Science Festival, March 25–29 at the Cross Insurance Center — and we’re bringing pieces of the Moon and Mars, as well as other meteorites with us.
From middle school field trips to all-ages exploration stations, MMGM will offer hands-on meteorite activities and a rare opportunity to hold authentic lunar and Martian samples.

Friday, March 27
Field Trip Day – Meteorite Workshops
Time: 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Audience: 7th & 8th Grade Students
Location: Cross Insurance Center, 515 Main Street, Bangor, ME
- Students from across Maine will attend Field Trip Day at the Maine Science Festival, where MMGM’s Education Outreach Coordinator will lead engaging, meteorite-themed workshops.
- Participants will explore how scientists identify meteorites, what these extraterrestrial rocks reveal about our solar system, and why Maine is home to one of the most significant meteorite collections in the country.
Saturday, March 28
Exploration Stations – Hands-On Meteorite Activities
Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Audience: All Ages
Location: Cross Insurance Center Ballroom, 515 Main Street, Bangor, ME
MMGM will join more than 20 Maine organizations in the Exploration Station Ballroom. Stop by our table to:
- See real meteorites up close
- Learn what these rare space rocks teach scientists
- Hold large pieces of the Moon and Mars
- Ask questions of museum experts
- This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity in Maine to experience authentic lunar and Martian material in person.
About the Maine Science Festival
The Maine Science Festival is a five-day celebration of science, innovation, and discovery in Maine. Since launching in 2015, the festival has welcomed nearly 80,000 attendees and hosted more than 70 free events annually.
