About this Event
This event provides an opportunity for PGR students to meet and discuss various issues related to diversification, marginalisation and inclusivity in Modern Languages’ research practice. The field of Modern Languages is itself highly diverse, but continues to feature dominant languages and areas of research practice. At a time when Modern Languages in the UK and beyond are facing significant and acute challenges, it is essential that we are able to demonstrate the importance of efforts to include traditionally underrepresented peoples and voices in our work. Diversification and inclusivity can also involve critically engaging with canonical frameworks by introducing, revising, or decentralising certain methodologies or epistemologies, for instance. This event will feature speakers from a range of subject areas, institutions and career stages who will talk about their approaches to and experience of diversification and inclusivity. We welcome proposals for 10-minute presentations from any ML PGR students working on topics including, but not limited to: marginalisation; diversification; decolonisation; inclusivity; non-canonical genres; migration; indigenous peoples.
