About this Event
Join the Maine Jewish Museum + Hadassah + Rimon Book Group at the JCA for our final gathering of the season as we discuss Soles of a Survivor by Nhi Aronheim.
At just twelve years old, Nhi Aronheim fled Vietnam, trekking barefoot through the jungles of Cambodia in search of safety, freedom, and the possibility of a future in America. Her extraordinary journey would take her through refugee camps in Thailand and eventually to the United States, where she built a new life shaped by resilience, reinvention, family, faith, and identity. Along the way, she would ultimately embrace Judaism and come to describe herself as “Jewitamese,” proudly carrying both Vietnamese and Jewish traditions forward together.
Soles of a Survivor is not simply a survival story. It is a story about belonging, cultural memory, and what it means to build a life after unimaginable upheaval. In other words, exactly the kind of book that sparks rich conversation, which makes it perfect for our delightfully chatty book group.
And remember: you do not need to have finished the book — or even started it! — to participate. Come for the conversation, community, and awesome vibes.
Even more exciting: Nhi Aronheim will be joining us at the Maine Jewish Museum on Thursday, June 25 for an afternoon book talk and an evening Vietnamese-Jewish fusion dinner in the magnificent Museum garden (or in the gallery among the art if the weather does not cooperate).
