Bio: Working for the La Crosse county parks system as a maintenance worker, I fell in love with mushrooms while coming across chicken of the woods mowing the lawn. Born in the inner city of Milwaukee, learning about the benefits of mushrooms in the culinary sense with no previous exposure, I became obsessed and began listening to podcasts for hours a day. After gaining a following online sharing my love for fungi years later, I began leading my own dinner forays and traveling the country to speak about soil microbes.
Talk title: The Seen and Unseen
Fruiting Bodies, Soil Microbes, and How they Affect Us
About: I will be going over the basics of how mushrooms form, to the connections that our favorite foraging finds have with the environment around them. We will take a deeper dive into what is going on microbially in the soil. Going over the basics of the soil food web, soil succession, monocropping, the history of herbicide and pesticide use, invasive species, and more. With Dr. Elaine Ingham being the motivation and researcher backed by this vital message.
