MISSION POSSIBLE TARRANT COUNTY: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way
Mission Possible Tarrant County 2026 MLK Day of Service Weekend
January 17–19, 2026 | Tarrant County, Texas
In sacred remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the generations of ancestors whose lives, labor, and sacrifice are consecrated in the soil of Historic New Trinity Cemetery, the community is invited to participate in a three-day MLK Day of Service Weekend rooted in honor, sacrifice, and service.
As we commemorate the 140th anniversary of New Trinity Cemetery, we gather to remember, restore, and rejoice—continuing our collective Dig for Dignity through acts of service grounded in love, justice, and nonviolence.
More than a commemoration, this weekend is a call to action—bringing Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community to life through service, worship, learning, and compassion-driven outreach.

Honoring Sacred Lives and Sacred Ground
This sacred remembrance includes a community-led cemetery restoration honoring more than 500 Black veterans buried at New Trinity Cemetery, including:
• Technician Fifth Grade Florence Marie Cole Rawls, Congressional Gold Medal recipient and member of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion (WWII)
• Dr. Riley A. Ransom, Fort Worth’s first Black physician and founding force behind the city’s first Black hospital
• Fred Rouse, the only documented Black man lynched in Fort Worth in 1921
Their lives compel us to serve—not as an obligation, but as an act of reverence.
New Trinity Cemetery holds an irreplaceable place in the history and soul of the Black community. Through the faithful stewardship of American Legion Post 655, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, the City of Haltom City, the Sheriff’s Department Labor Detail, and the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Association, the cemetery was rededicated on Veterans Day, November 11, 2025, and honored during Wreaths Across America on December 13, 2025—remembrance made visible through action.

The 2026 Mission Possible Tarrant County MLK Day of Service Weekend.
“Mission Possible Tarrant County: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way”
Guided by the principles of The King Center, this year’s theme reaffirms Dr. King’s enduring belief that nonviolent service and courageous love can heal communities and transform a divided nation.
Theme Meaning:
• Mission Possible II — A renewed call to action, building upon the sacrifices of those who came before us
• Building Community — Strengthening neighborhoods, families, and institutions through equity, service, and shared responsibility
• Uniting a Nation — Bridging divides through truth, nonviolence, and love-centered action—choosing advocacy over apathy and justice over silence
Our Goal:
To inspire sustained service and faithful action January 17–19, 2026, cultivating a world where injustice is confronted, violence gives way to compassion, and love—active, courageous, and enduring—prevails.
