“My art is the perfect blend of evident and allegory...” - Zakiyyah
Boston native Zakiyyah is an artist-activist who has had the pleasure of performing for numerous audiences from the House of Blues, to the Boston Symphony Hall, and more recently, the United Nations.
A classically-trained singer and actress, Zakiyyah is skillfully versed in Opera, Hip-Hop, Jazz, R&B, and Gospel. She graduated as the Student Body President and Valedictorian of Boston Arts Academy with a major in voice, earned her degree in Political Science and Sociology from Wellesley College, and continued her vocal studies at New England Conservatory.
Her extremely versatile artistic skill-set empowers her to reach a broad range of audiences and craft a sound that is uniquely her own, including her most well-known, "Hip-Hopera". She utilizes music and visual media to explore themes that centralize marginalized communities via her production company, Black and Bold Productions
In addition to her artistic practice, Zakiyyah has a strong commitment to education, having worked as an administrator at Conservatory Lab Charter School, offering private voice training via Harvard’s Holden Voice Program and the Hamilton Garrett Music and Arts Academy, creating an arts-activism program for teens in 2020 entitled “Creative Revolution”. She is also a Season Partner for the Boston Children’s Chorus, and works as a racial equity consultant with Arts Connect International.
Her upcoming album, “African Import”, provides a window into both the beauty and complexity of the black diaspora, and the significance of its consumption by mainstream society.
