Wild Eye celebrates the return of the sweet musical duo Misner & Smith, as well as solo artist Velvy Appleton, three fine songwriters. This night will shine with their final performances at Wild Eye, before it closes 3 weeks later, as the owners retire.
Misner & Smith
Consisting of Northern California-based unclassifiable duo Sam Misner (my-zner) and Megan Smith, this pair treasures the unpredictability of their band. Technically precise songwriting mirrored with an improvisatory spirit and soaring harmonies are the hallmark of their sound. The beauty of Misner & Smith is in the way they transform all moments—the mundane and spectacular alike—into breathtakingly beautiful music.
"Within the first five measures of the first song of the first gig... I knew I’d be a forever fan. Clear gorgeous vocals, diction celebrating the words, brilliant and varied melodies, goosebump-inducing harmonies, dynamics and stagecraft, and stellar musicianship." - Peggy Glenn, FolkWorks
“Misner & Smith search deeply in their songwriting, and their music is beautiful complex poetry.” - Americana Highways
“When writing music, I’m reminded that no matter the difficulties, love is reappearing in new forms and different places,” Misner explains. The feeling that Misner & Smith get from making music is one they want everyone in the world to feel." -Will Schube
Velvy Appleton
Velvy is a singer-songwriter, photographer, filmmaker living in Grass Valley. For the past 25+ years, Velvy has been writing and performing with a wide array of Northern California bands, including Spark & Whisper, Monica Pasqual & the Handsome Brunettes, Little Gems, Rhonda Linstadt, The Dolly Mamas, Howie’s Persuasion, The Valley Blues Brothers, and the seminal SF Brazilian dance band, Nobody From Ipanema.
Velvy’s original songs strike a unique balance— dynamic musical composition and thoughtful lyrics, combined with a groovy, rock-n-roll sensibility-- creating work of a singular artistic style and vision. His 2013 “Ghost Towns” album with Spark & Whisper was sited on a dozen+ 'Top Ten Folk Albums of the Year' lists.
