About Mirai Cosplay Matsuri
Mirai Cosplay Matsuri is a cosplay masquerade created by the UMW Cosplay Club. Cosplay masquerades are competitions where cosplayers, craftsmen, and everyone in between perform in or showcase a cosplay. Masquerades of this nature are often a major part of a convention’s programming. Sometimes, these events are standalone. This fall, the UMW Cosplay Club aims to give cosplayers, craftsmen, idols, and anyone with a talent a chance to perform for the local community through this celebration of cosplay culture.
Mirai Cosplay Matsuri is a standalone event from any convention and comes from the team that created Sora! Idol Festival. MCM is more than just a cosplay masquerade; the event focuses on the showcase element of masquerades and places less emphasis on competition. As such, anyone in the local community with a talent and an appreciation for cosplay is invited to apply to perform at the event. Everyone gets an equal opportunity to perform to an audience without the pressure of crafting the perfect costume or trying to impress a set of judges.
Doors open at 5:00 pm. The event begins at 5:30 pm. This event is free to attend.
Venue Info
MCM will take place in The Underground, which is located in Lee Hall. Lee Hall can be accessed by vehicle by driving through the roundabout on Campus Drive. Lee Hall can be accessed from the Alvery Parking Deck by walking along Campus Walk up until Ball Circle.
Parking Info
Performers and attendees will park on the top floor of the Alvey Parking Deck, which is accessible from Route 1 (Emancipation Highway). Route 1 connects to I-95 via exit 126 (US 1/MAssaponax).
Directions from Route 1:
- From Emancipation Highway, you will see a pedestrian tunnel that says “University of Mary Washington”. If you are southbound, Alvery Drive will be on the left-hand side before you pass the tunnel. If you are northbound, Alvery Drive will be on the right-hand side immediately after the tunnel.
- Turn onto Alvey Drive. If you are southbound, then you will need to cross the northbound lanes of traffic or make a U-turn at the stoplight intersecting with College Avenue. There will be signs directing you to the parking deck along the road.
- Proceed straight until you encounter the parking garage. Then turn left onto the deck. You will enter the 4th floor of the parking deck, which is where you are authorized to park.
About UMW Cosplay Club
The UMW Cosplay Club is an ICA-recognized university organization at the University of Mary Washington, located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Founded in October of 2023, the club is one of the fastest-growing communities of cosplayers not just on VA college campuses but in the DMV. The club consists of over 100 members of the UMW student body who are interested in cosplay, costume craftsmanship, alternative and J-fashion, fursuiting, anime/comic conventions, fandom spaces, and much more. Its goal is to host events celebrating cosplay and all of its related fandom-centric elements. Part of the UMW Cosplay Club’s itinerary includes an idol festival every Spring, called Sora! Idol Festival.
