Minis 2.0: The Modern Approach to Miniature Horses
This presentation encourages attendees to explore the exponential teaching, training, and learning opportunities that are possible with miniature horses. One of the primary advantages of partnering with mini equines is the chance for equestrians of all ages and abilities to teach and learn an array of advanced horsemanship skills in a lower risk environment. Examples of activities for minis include obstacle and versatility courses, in-hand dressage, carriage driving (singles, pairs, unicorn formations), equine skijoring/sledding, long lining and other traditional groundwork skills, rollerblading, liberty, trick training, pony yoga, etc. The accessibility and approachability of miniature horses makes them ideal candidates for a variety of educational, therapeutic or recreational programs. They especially have a talent for empowering people who are beginners, fearful, or experience physical or cognitive limitations to be more independent in learning technical skills as well as developing a relationship with their equine partner based on mutual trust and respect.

Additionally, the small stature of miniature horses allows them to be incredible ambassadors within the community. Minis can go to locations that would be more challenging with a larger equine. There are many ways they can have a positive lasting impact in communities through volunteer work, therapeutic or wellness visits, attending events like seasonal parades, county fairs, and holiday celebrations, or being part of milestone events like anniversaries and weddings. They also give people increased access to learning and interacting with horses, some of whom have never met a mini before or never thought they would ever get the chance to meet a horse.
