For our June Salon we’re inviting independent creatives to The Outhouse bar to present (and preferably sell) their diminutive creations...
About this Event

We’re delighted to invite small-press publishers, pamphleteers, zinesters, and ‘crafty’ people to rent a tiny table and share their creative designs. We’re looking for works produced on a small scale, yet multum in parvo containing much; preferably A5 in size or smaller, and ideally hand-crafted, folded, printed, then held in manus tuas.

We’re talking cottage industry, risograph, calligraphed, intricately stitched, octavo folded, bound with silken thread, held with vegan beeswax. But we’re not ruling out those whose printing methods would send the luddites spinning in their ancient graves, and who utilise the long-armed stapler.

Our theme is ‘mini’, but our aims are high: to bring together people on the margins of traditional publishing, whether small-press, homespun, self-published, or those who produce beautiful work purely for the purpose of their craft; creating Art simply for Art’s sake.

We encourage works of creative, literary, and artistic merit, peppered perhaps with a touch of polemic.

The MINI-ZINE-FAIR will be at The Outhouse, where our usual monthly Salon event takes place. It will incorporate a Salon Gathering at the mid-point, where a flurry of literary folk will come to chat and drink, share ideas, discussion and disputation. We’ll have a short presentation on the MINI-ZINE THEME, and folk can stick around to buy a zine or two, and hopefully have another drink… or two.

HOW IT WORKS

· Rent a table [check size] by booking through Eventbrite

· Register/set-up at The Outhouse from 3pm on the day

· Start at 4pm – vendors responsible for their own sales

· Salon Attendees gather from 6.30 [free entry for all]

· Salon Presentation at 7pm – introduction to mini-zine-fair

· Sales (and drinks) continue until 10pm; bar closes at 11pm

We are looking forward to welcoming a wealth of creatives from all stages of life and industry, and we are open to all who wish to share their literary, creative, or artistic flair.

If non-zine commitments prevent afternoon attendance, a 6pm start would be acceptable.

When you book a table to rent, we will be in touch to confirm your place and check up on the small-print (pun intended.)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ AND AGREE TO THIS LIST BEFORE REGISTERING

· We don’t ask up front, but request £5 per table towards our running costs

· The Outhouse has two function areas; one is accessible, the other is via stairs

· We will ascertain whether you require an exclusively accessible table space

· Tablers are invited to rotate between upstairs and downstairs if they are able

· The Presentation Section of the formal Salon will be livestreamed via zoom

· If you would like to contribute to the Presentation Section, please let us know

· We would like to include information on our stallholders in our promotions

· The Outhouse doesn’t serve food; bring your own, but purchase drink from the bar

· We welcome all styles, approaches, languages – even Latin – but keep it DIMINUTIVE

· We request contributors’ respect of decency and free speech in equal measure

Table Registration closes on the 10th of June at 22.59 – we look forward to hearing from you sooner!

Accessibility Notice
Edinburgh Literary Salon is open to all those with an interest in all aspects of Literature, whether professional or personal, and to all parts of the industry: writers, publishers, booksellers etc. The mini-zine-fair is geared towards small-press publications, but all are welcome. We plan to livestream the Presentation Section of the integrated Salon, which will be in the upstairs room at The Outhouse. If required we will also stream this downstairs which is a fully accessible area. If there is a problem accessing zoom, we will do what we can to assist. We strive to ensure adequate audibility, and straightforward registration. We invite positive feedback on how we can improve, even within our limitations as a non-funded organisation. We welcome open and respectful conversation.
