Mini pinhole photography workshop with sustainable plant-based developer

This is a hands on workshop, where we will be using recycled film canisters + drinks cans to make a miniature pinhole camera. We will make our own sustainable, low-toxicity developers from coffee grinds and Rosemary leaves, and a fixer from salt to process the images.

The morning session will involve making the cameras and solutions, we will take a walk around the park to forage for some plants to make up our developers. We will take a break for lunch together, where I will provide a tasty and nutritious homemade vegetarian meal, and cake, unlimited tea & coffee will also be available throughout the day.

After lunch we will go out to use our new cameras in the surrounding park and come back to the darkroom to develop the photographs in the low-toxicity photo chemistry.

By the end of the workshop, you should produce up to 10 miniature positive photographs .

This workshop is being run by Lynda Laird, a photographic artist based in St Leonards on sea. Her research-based practice merges archive, photography, video and sound. Employing techniques, methods and materials that are sympathetic and relevant to the subject, often employing camera less techniques and working with the materiality of specific landscapes in an attempt to bring an element or trace of its history in to the work.
