Join us Friday, October 16th to build your own Nature Aquarium!

In this workshop, you will learn about the "Walstad" method, a low maintenance aquarium technique that emphasizes an 'ecosystems' approach to maintaining a healthy balanced aquarium.

Instead of fancy, expensive equipment and constant fertilizer inputs, plants, aquatic microfauna and a healthy soil together become the main focus for filtration and nutrition.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
You will plant both the underwater section of your aquarium as well as plant typical houseplants growing out of the top portion of their aquarium to create something akin to a lush jungle pond.
The materials provided :

• 1 gallon glass vase
• specialty soil blend
• driftwood
• utensils
• selection of 3-5 aquatic plants, selection of 3-5 indoor house plants

WHO CAN JOIN:
This class is best suited for those with some gardening experience, especially those that have dabbled in terrariums and want to explore the aquatic side of horticulture. No worries if you aren't super experienced though! We're happy to guide you along.

It also is a popular choice for those with limited indoor space, as Walstad aquariums can be used in 'smaller footprint' containers.

ADMISSION:

Tickets - $85

Due to the more technical aspects of the class, the quality of materials, and the wide selection of indoor plants and aquarium plants, the admission price is a higher price point.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Anthony is a lifelong Californian who has always had an interest in cultivating living things, whether it be plants, fungi, insects to name a few. Having also worked in plant nursery for many years, eventually he began to try and learn different styles of horticulture, such as naturalistic aquarium planting, tissue culture and terrarium building. Now, he shares his enthusiasm for horticulture through workshops and local markets within Los Angeles county.
