Mingle Bingo is a brand-new IRL night out for singles, popping up at restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and other great spots around town. We're launching it in New Haven this month, and this edition is for singles roughly in their 30s and 40s.
Here's how it works. You come in, grab a drink, and get a bingo card. Instead of numbers, every square describes someone you could find in the room: someone who has lived in another country, someone with a tattoo they regret, someone who has a pet reptile. Your job is to find them, say hello, and cross off boxes until you get BINGO.
The card gives you a reason to walk up and start talking to anyone in the room, which takes care of the hardest part of meeting people in person: the introduction. Once you've said hello, the rest is up to you. Stay and get to know them, move through the room together, or keep filling your card and see who you meet next.
Think of it as a low-key, no-pressure excuse to start real conversations with single people. The kind that might actually go somewhere. There's no seating chart and no rounds. You move at your own pace, talk to whoever the card sends you toward, and if a conversation has run its course, you already have a completely natural reason to keep moving.
IRL Bracelets: At IRL events we use rubber bracelets as a low-key way for you to let other people know what you're looking for that night. You can grab yours at the door: white for if you're just looking for some new single friends, yellow for if you're open to something casual, blue for if you are looking for a serious relationship... Wear one, two, all three, or skip it entirely. It's a small thing that takes the guesswork out of the room.
Been to an IRL Salon? This is its looser, lower-stakes cousin. Salons are built for great conversations in small groups: we seat you together, hand you the conversation cards, and move you through the room in rounds. Mingle Bingo has the same idea underneath, with less structure and a lot more freedom. It gets you past the introduction, then lets you take it from there.
About the venue Barracuda is a Latin American gastro bar tucked inside 80 Proof on Crown Street, casually stylish and known for bright, bold plates and one of the best happy hours in the city. Chef and owner Sonia Salazar grew up in Colombia, and it shows all over the menu and the cocktail list. Come a little hungry.
The details Tuesday, August 18. Doors at 7:00 PM, we wrap around 9:00. Barracuda lives inside 80 Proof at 196 Crown Street, so come into 80 Proof and head straight to the back, where you'll see the Barracuda sign. For singles in their 30s and 40s. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and drinks and food are yours to enjoy at the bar all night.
Come alone. Most people do. Grab a ticket, show up, and let the card do the hard part.
