The importance of mindfulness in helping us get in touch with our internal and external experiences cannot be overstated in this busy and screen driven world. We are often so distracted in our multi-tasking lives that we rarely take moments to tune into the experiences and gifts of the present moment. Mindfulness allows us an opportunity to pause and get in touch with ourselves in a deep and reflective way. When was the last time that you practiced this valuable self-care?
What you can expect: We will explore mindfulness strategies each week as an act of healing, self care, and self empowerment. We will learn about breathing, visualization, and emotional regulation tools to aid in relaxation in the moment and to develop skills that will aid us in our day to day conscious lives.
You are encouraged to come weekly to the classes to develop mindfulness habits, but it is not a requirement in order to benefit from the course material.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of slowing down with curiosity to be mindful of our thoughts and environment in the present moment. We lean into our in-the-moment- experiences, feelings, and sensations. It is meant to be a process without judgement; there isn’t a right way or a wrong way of thinking or feeling, and you certainly can’t stop all of your thoughts! We simply take time to observe our thoughts and sensations in any given moment.
Mindfulness uses breathing techniques to begin the process of focused attention and it gradually builds deeper awareness of other ways to be mindful. These strategies can naturally help to reduce anxiety and stress and can help us learn to regulate emotions and have more conscious control over our experiences.
What Mindfulness is NOT:
Mindfulness does not require a large time commitment or a specialized place.
Mindfulness does not require special body poses or activity.
Mindfulness is not about removing thoughts or perfecting thoughts.
Mindfulness is not about feeling happy and calm all of the time.
Mindfulness is not a religiously affiliated practice, but aides in spirituality.
Mindfulness is not the same as meditation.
Mindfulness is not a quick fix.
Mindfulness can be a game-changer when it comes to understanding yourself, your thoughts, and your deeper sense of spirituality.
