Instead of giving up candy or especially loved foods and drinks, mindful eating can be a positive Lenten practice, grounding us in the presence of God.
As Christians, we believe that we meet God, the source of love, in the now. Mindfulness involves paying attention in the present moment without judgment and with self-compassion. A practice of mindful eating can increase our sense of the divine indwelling throughout our day. It can also help us access the inner wisdom of our bodies that we frequently do not hear or heed and nourish our whole selves—mind, body, and spirit.
This retreat is planned for you to experience mindful eating and mindfulness meditation from a Christian perspective.
We will meet on Friday afternoon for a session on our “inner wisdom." Then we will eat dinner together mindfully and discuss what we noticed during this tasting.
During Saturday sessions, we will explore hunger, fullness, and satisfaction before a mindful lunch and dinner, In the evening, we will investigate feeding our hungry hearts.
On Sunday, we will end with resources to become less judgmental and more compassionate to ourselves.
Another goal of this weekend is to start healing our often-troubled relationship with food and our bodies. However, these sessions are not designed for those with a diagnosed eating disorder or for those currently committed to a weight loss regimen.
