Mindful Coastal Clean Up - Florida Climate Week

Community Partnership and Student / Employee Volunteering Opportunity.
AHAM Education Inc. (AHAM), organization in consultative status with the United Nations, in partnership with the Volo Foundation, the Southeast Climate and Energy Network (SCEN), Space Coast Credit Union (SCCU) are hosting a Mindful Coastal Rehabilitation at the Hugh Taylor Birch Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida focused on the well-being of people and our natural ecosystems during Florida Climate Week.

We will be integrating the practice of mindful and compassion to an ecological restoration and educational activity.

SCCU employees and other teams will be volunteering as part of their commitment to social responsibility. South Florida middle and high school students will have the opportunity to practice mindfulness, learn how to integrate into their lives, serve as eco-stewards, and earn volunteer service hours toward their graduation requirements. Must sign waiver to attend. A media release will also be provided for photos and videos.

Meeting and Parking: Upon arrival, inform the ranger station that you are participating in the beach cleanup for free entry and directions on where to go. Park in the beach hammock lot which is the first parking lot on the right after the ranger station. Meet at the picnic tables by Long Lake, between numbers 4,5, & 6 on the map below.

Refreshments: Water (bring your own water bottle!), Coffee, Snacks.

What to Bring/Wear: Reusable water bottle, sunscreen & bug spray, and wear comfortable clothing for being out on the beach and in the park for a couple of hours.

Paperwork: Volunteers 15 years old and older will need to sign a “short-term volunteer agreement” in order to participate. All participants over 15 years of age sign the group volunteer form upon arrival.

Activity schedule:

8:30 a.m. - Arrivals, sign-in, refreshments

8:50 a.m. - Opening circle and peace walk

9:10 a.m. - Mindful coastal / mangove clean up activity

11:00 a.m. - Signing volunteer forms and departure.10:15 a.m. - Ocean conservation & sea level rise talk, closing reflections
