About this Event
This training has been approved, by the NASW Michigan chapter, for four hours of continuing education in social work and will approach mental health from a whole body perspective by understanding the roots of symptoms vs diagnoses. It will start with a general definition of mental health, and factors that influence it. The presentation will cover the following topics:
• how chronic stress affects the mind, body and cognition
• effects of cortisol and inflammation
• how to better manage mental health
• what constitutes a balanced life
• role of the vagus nerve and the autonomic nervous system
• importance of calming your body and being kind to yourself
• diet/nutrition and the importance of the microbiome
• the standard American diet vs a balanced diet
• role of neurotransmitters
• estrogen and the brain
• understanding sugar in diets
• good carbs, different kinds of fat and the importance of protein
• implementing lifestyle changes by improving diet, sleep, and exercise
• ideas to balance life and the importance of self-care
