Min Jin Lee Reading Group

Do you want to read one of the greatest novelists currently writing? Whether you’re a Min Jin Lee superfan or just looking to carve out time to dive into longer novels, our winter reading group is for you. Join Sarah G & Nicole as we launch our first reading group celebrating a contemporary author! 

We will read Min Jin Lee’s three novels - Free Food for Millionaires, Pachinko, and American Hagwon - in publication order over three months in January, February, and March. These novels form a trilogy of sorts about the Korean diaspora, so we will be reading these stunning novels in publication order, looking for the connections and themes explored across these workers. With beautiful writing, indelible characters, and deep, thoughtful insight into the history and culture of the Korean people, Min Jin Lee’s work is a must read for any fan of contemporary literary fiction.

What is a reading group? It's a little more structured than a book club and way less formal than a class. We read the text and learn from each other through discussion! We are bundling tickets for all three sessions together, as the discussions will build on prior sessions. We are also offering a bundle that includes copies of all three books with your tickets to all three sessions.

The planned book for each session will be:
