During our series of “Milling in the Revolution” we will explore various aspects of milling during the American Revolution. Millstones for Flour will explore miller’s primary tool for making flour, the millstone. Learn about how millstones were used to make flour, what they are made from, and where they come from. Examine how millstones were constructed and learn how they were dressed, or sharpened, to make the finest flour. Activities will include banding a millstone, assembling a French burr stone, and potentially a dressing demonstration of time allows.
