About this Event
A FREE family-friendly event is sure to bring out bakers and treat makers, young and old! Make 10-15 servings of your favorite homemade holiday desserts and bring them to swap with others. Everyone leaves with an array of treats to enjoy.
Details:
- Everyone gets a space on a table to set up their desserts.
- Feel free to decorate your space with a table cloth, napkins, signs or flowers.
- Please be sure your desserts are clearly labeled, with a sign on the table listing the dish's title and ingredients.
- If you can, please bring samples for others to try.
- Package your desserts so others can swap with you and take them home to enjoy.
- Once the swap begins, each person walks around the tables offering their swaps with others by.
What happens during the swap?
Swaps usually last about two hours.
• The first 30 minutes of the swap are devoted to sign-in, set-up, and greetings. Swappers fill out name tags and swap sheets and set up their wares on the tables.
• The next 30 minutes to 1 hour are for everyone to walk around, examine, and sample items from the other swappers. Swappers will write their names and items they brought on the sheets for any items they would like to take home.
• The final 30 minutes are when all the swapping actually happens. Everyone goes back to his or her original sheets of paper, looks at the offers, finds interested offerers via their name tags, and swaps.
The Honor Code
This is a community event; however, participants must pre-register, which means this event is operated as a private club.
In addition, all swap participants adhere to an honor code of using the highest cleanliness standards in their kitchens and gardens to prepare their swap items. Swap participants must agree to the following terms before registering:
• By participating in this event, you acknowledge that the shared food items are not necessarily prepared in commercial kitchens or spaces inspected by any government agency.
• By participating in this event, you also acknowledge that you will use the highest safety and cleanliness standards in food preparation.
• By participating in this event, you assume all liability; specifically, you agree not to hold liable food swap hosts, swap venue owners/providers, or other swap participants.
A Little About Me!
I'm Jessica Brown - I live in Mill Valley with my family. I used to run the Nevada City Food Swap and Community Supported Food Share Program. I am a trained clinical nutritionist, compassion teacher, and author. Food Swaps were VERY popular in Nevada City (see pics below!). I especially loved them because they are a free, family-friendly event. Kids can be in charge of their swapping, and it's a great way to build community and meet new people. This event is perfect for introverts, extroverts, novice bakers, moms who want a safe, fun event for kids, and those interested in holiday celebrations. If you have questions, email me!
