About this Event
The branches of Mill Creek flow through many unique urban landscapes, as they travel through the historic community of Richmond Valley and out to the Arthur K*ll.
Join artist, photographer, and journalist Nathan Kensinger on a walk crossing several branches of this wild waterway, as it flows past Bluebelts, underneath abandoned railroads and train stations, and through forests and wetlands. Along the route, we will pass through the former grounds of the Mt. Loretto orphanage, visit new stormwater drainage features, and consider the history of French, Dutch and English immigrants in the area.
This walk is one-way and approximately 2.5 miles. It begins near the Pleasant Plains train station, and ends near the Arthur K*ll train station. Sturdy, close-toed shoes are recommended for this walk, which will involve following footpaths over streams, through wooded environments, and on uneven ground.
This event is part of a series of NYC H20 walks led by Nathan Kensinger, exploring how creeks, industry, and immigration helped to shape Staten Island's historic neighborhoods.
