This National Canadian Film Day The Broadway is thrilled to host the Saskatoon Premeire of MILE END KICKS, the latest from emerging cinema phenom Chandler Levack! Mile End Kicks will be followed immediatly by a screening of I LIKE MOVIES. Mile End Kicks/ Canada/ 2025/ Dir: Chanler Levack/ 105 Min/ Current Rotten Tomatoes Score: 89%
With elements reminiscent of “Almost Famous” and “Frances Ha,” writer-director Chandler Levack’s follow-up to “I Like Movies” is vibrant, funny, and heartfelt.
Set in the summer of 2011, the story follows Grace Pine (Barbie Ferreira), a restless twenty-something music critic who travels to Montreal in pursuit of her dream: to write the ultimate book about Alanis Morissette’s landmark album, Jagged Little Pill. Instead, she discovers Mile End—a legendary neighbourhood alive with guitars, dive bars, and the final echoes of Canada’s early 2000s indie-rock boom.
As Grace immerses herself in this vibrant culture, she becomes entangled in its dynamics and stirs up a few romantic relationships. However, she must consider whether these experiences might come at the expense of her professional ambitions.
I Love Movies/ Canada/2022/ Dir: Chandler Levack/ 99 Min/ Current Rotten Tomatoes Score: 98%
Lawrence (Lehtinen), an awkward and anxious 17-year-old cinephile living in Burlington, ON, in the early 2000s, believes that he is on the path to a legendary filmmaking career – but at this point, it’s only gotten him as far as a job at the local video store. His blind ambition, combined with his unique worldview, confounds even those closest to him, and he soon starts to alienate his new manager Alana (D’Ugo) and even his best friend (Hynes White), forcing him to decide what he’s willing to sacrifice on the road to success.
A true movie for movie lovers, Chandler Levack’s debut feature is a charming coming-of-age story that perfectly captures small-town Canadian adolescence.
