The split bill, held in the Congregational Church, 17 West St., Mansfield, MA, promises an evening of authentic, heartfelt music that spans from gritty blue-collar narratives to Nashville-inspired blues-country melodies.
“This show is an opportunity to experience two distinct yet complementary musical styles,” says Stephen Ide, the Rose Garden’s artistic director. “Mike’s gritty, blue-collar narratives will contrast beautifully with Michelle’s Nashville blues-country and folk-inspired tunes.”
Mike Laureanno, a Fall River native, returns to the Rose Garden for his third appearance, which started when he was finalist in the coffeehouse's annual Performing Songwriter Competition in 2014. Laureanno's music is deeply rooted in his hometown's rich history and working-class ethos. His visceral and evocative songs have earned him accolades, including wins at the 2017 Wildflower, TX songwriting contest and the 2016 Woody Guthrie songwriting contest.
Laureanno not only writes and performs, but also produces and engineers his own albums. His discography includes four releases: "Pushing Back Wintertime" (2013), "Road Signs" (2015), "Tightrope" (2017), and "I Come from Fall River" (2021).
Making her Rose Garden debut, Michelle Saylors brings a unique blend of musical influences from her Tennessee roots to her current home in Bristol, Rhode Island. Saylors' journey in music began with bluegrass festivals in the early ’90s and has led her to prestigious venues like Nashville’s Bluebird Café. She describes her musical style as Nashville blues-country/bluegrass/folk.
Her debut album, “Hit the Creek,” released in July 2024, features 10 original songs that bridge the gap between her small-town Southern upbringing and her New England coastal life. The album has been gaining traction on streaming platforms both nationally and in the UK.
