MJS is led by Mike Brehm and Joey Dies, who have performed and recorded together across new england, from New York to Maine and back. Featuring a lively set of modern jazz with elements of rock, funk, and latin music performed by incredibly talented local musicians and friends.

BIO:
A born and raised Texan, Jazz Trumpeter Mike Brehm is a dedicated husband, and father of three wonderful children, and currently serves as an active duty Navy Band Musician in Newport, Rhode Island. You can also hear him performing with Latin bands, small group jazz and big bands, as well as popular music groups for private and public events. He began his study of Jazz at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX in 2009, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies. He then took a few years to play on cruise ships as a lead trumpet player and soloist in show bands and lounge bands. After several years of freelancing in Canada and the U.S., he pursued a Master’s of Music Degree from New England Conservatory, graduating in Jazz Performance in 2022. As a teacher, Mike is an adjunct faculty member of Roger Williams University, teaching applied trumpet studies, as well as maintaining his own small private lesson studio.
Mike has shared the stage and/or studied under such notable artists as Dave Holland, Maria Schneider, John McNeil, Jason Palmer, Ken Schaphorst, Rufus Reid, Bob Mintzer, Tony Vega, and many others. Michael enjoys spending time with his family, tasting new craft beer, and composing his own music.
Florida native, Joey Dies is a versatile Trombonist currently based in the Boston Area. Trained classically, Joey received a Bachelors of Music degree in Trombone Performance from Stetson University, learning and performing the major symphonic repertoire for trombone. Following completion of his Bachelor’s Degree, Joey decided to pursue his love of Jazz, attending the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music gradating with a Master’s of Music degree in Jazz Performance.
Joey has performed with such artists as Maria Schneider, Arturo O’Farrill, Dave Holland, Somi Kakoma, Mehmet Ali Sanlikol, and Linda Cole. At NEC, Joey studied under Marshall Gilkes of the Maria Schneider Orchestra for both trombone technique and jazz improvisation. His past and present teachers include Conrad Herwig, Michael Dease, David Schmidt, John McNeil, and Jason Palmer. Joey is also an active teacher, mentoring young brass students every summer at the Stetson Brass Summer Intensive, and maintaining a small private lesson studio, teaching both classical and jazz traditions.
