Living west of the Blue Ridge Mountains in modern day Tennessee and Kentucky, they were reluctant to get involved in the war until British Major Patrick Ferguson threatened that he would march “over the mountains, hang their leaders and lay their country waste with fire and sword.” So, over the mountains they came. Joined by more men from North Carolina and Virginia, they met Ferguson at a place called King’s Mountain. It did not go well for Ferguson. Don’t mess with mighty mountain men.
