Author Kevin Koch takes participants on a photo-journey across twelve Midwestern states to out-of-the-way nature and outdoor-cultural sites defying the usual stereotypes of Midwest landscape. Geology, biology, archaeology, and history are interspersed throughout the narrative of this twelve-state journey. The presentation is based on Koch’s most recent book, Midwest Bedrock: The Search for Nature’s Soul in America’s Heartland (Indiana University Press).This event will be hosted at the Library, and is a collaboration between the Spring Green Community Library, Morrill Lecture Series, and Arcadia Books. This event is also part of the Wisconsin Science Festival.

Biography: Kevin Koch, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of English at Loras College in Dubuque, IA, where he taught various multidisciplinary nature-based writing courses. His writings include Midwest Bedrock: The Search for Nature’s Soul in America’s Heartland; The Thin Places: A Celtic Landscape from Ireland to the Driftless; The Driftless Land: Spirit of Place in the Upper Mississippi Valley; and Skiing at Midnight: A Nature Journal from Dubuque County, Iowa.
