It’s back! Deciding against all the available evidence that there is, in fact, a breakcore scene in Birmingham, whether anyone likes it or not, Midland Metro Alliance brings you another helping of absolute ADHD-addled nonsense. Opening the event this time round is DJ I’m Not Sure Yet, playing… whatever music it is that they play? Always an excellent set, but somehow it always seems very hard to remember exactly what was in them. Come down early to find out. Next up, Midland Metro Alliance resident (should we have maybe let him know that we consider him to be a resident before we advertised it?) LUCA is back, with something specially chosen to be just a little bit less totally bonkers than our headliner, to get you up to speed. Which is going to need to be fast. Because, headlining: Shoebill. Seeing the set Shoebill played at Bangface last year reminded me why I originally fell in love with breakcore. Sounds like experiencing the entirety of the last 15 years of the internet simultaneously, for an hour. Unbelievably good. This is how good it is – I am putting myself through the not inconsiderable stress of pulling together and promoting a whole event in two and a half weeks, just because the opportunity to put Shoebill on here came up. I missed Hudson Mohawke playing what would probably have been the most nostalgic musical experience of my life for that Bangface set, and I’d do it again in an instant. Anyway. Finally, all the way from Wales, it’s the disgusting degenerate that you’ve all been waiting slightly longer than planned for – Mr Flumpy. Hopefully he’ll actually get here this time! And hopefully someone that isn’t me will volunteer to clean up the horrible sticky mess he always leaves all over the dancefloor. PLUS!
