Help us clean up the Fells while getting your trail run or hike in!

About this Event

This is a partnered event with the Trail Animals Running Club (TARC), the Northeast Trail Crew (NTC), Patagonia Cambridge, Cambridge Running Club (CRC), and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Learn more about our partners below!

What will you do?

Plog! Pick up and bag trash and litter using trash grabbers, gloves, and trash bags while running, jogging, or hiking! Suitable for ages 12 and up.

What is ? Plogging is an activity where you pick up trash while jogging, running, or briskly hiking.

This event is held at Flynn Rink at 300 Elm St, Medford. Participants will start at this parking lot before hitting the trails in any direction they choose. Suggested routes and target areas will be provided. This rink is also near a bus stop for the 99 bus and is a 1.5-mile walk from the Orange Line Oak Grove T stop.

Please bring gloves, a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, a full reusable water bottle, and a snack, if you would like one. We recommend wearing good trail shoes or trail runners, long socks, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty and sweaty.

We ask all ploggers to please stay on the trails, so as not to disturb our valuable Fells ecosystems and habitat.

There will be prizes (!) for the following categories:

  • Most trash
  • Weirdest trash
  • Most useful trash
  • Most dog poop bags
  • Largest item of trash

So lace up those sneakers and join us on October 12th for a chance to win!

Trail Animals Running Club ()

The Trail Animals Running Club (TARC) is the largest trail and ultrarunning community in the Northeast United States. Our "trail animal" friends are local, national, and international! We are a nonprofit running club and aim to act as community stewards by providing equitable access to trail running and promoting positive trail running culture. For information on our free group runs and low-cost races from 5 km to 100+ miles, check us out on Facebook or view our website.

Northeast Trail Crew ()

The Northeast Trail Crew (NTC) is a Boston area trail running club. All are welcome at our weekly Wednesday night runs in the Middlesex Fells Reservation, and our monthly Sunday morning runs on the trails of the greater Boston area! For more information, check us out on Facebook.

Located in the heart of Harvard Square, our store has been serving the people of Cambridge since 2019. We love connecting with folks to help them pursue their passions with quality, sustainably made gear that gives back. We're stoked to see you all out there for this great event!

Cambridge Running Club ()

Cambridge Running Club (CRC) is a USATF-certified running club based in Cambridge/Boston, MA. We have a wide range of runners from those who ran competitively in college to those who picked up the sport recently, but are unified in their love for the sport and their desire to reach personal running goals. The club has two regularly scheduled runs per week – a track workout on Thursday nights with a coach, and member-hosted long runs on Saturday mornings. Aside from organized runs, the club also organizes several social and volunteering events throughout the year.

Department of Conservation and Recreation ()

DCR manages state parks and oversees more than 450,000 acres throughout Massachusetts. It protects, promotes, and enhances the state’s natural, cultural, and recreational resources.
