Mid-Michigan Spartans Present: The MSU Debate Team

About this Event

The Mid-Michigan Spartans are excited to bring you a live demonstration of a mock debate featuring the award winning MSU Debate Team. The debate topic will be determined closer to the event, but is likely to involve one of the following topics: electric vehicles, data centers, surveillance, climate change.

The MSU Debate Team is housed within the Honors College and has been active on MSU's campus since the 1950's.

For the first time in 10 years, last year's team reached the Elite Eight at the highly-competitive National Debate Tournament. We are pleased to support their ambitions to debate MSU back to a national title in the near future.

Event Timing:

• 6:30 p.m. - Arrive at Conrad Hall / Light Refreshments Available
• 7:00 p.m. - Debate Begins
• 7:40 p.m. - Debate Concludes / Q&A with Audience
• 8:00 p.m. - Event Concludes
• 8:30 p.m. - Remaining Guests Depart

Parking: Lot 30 is an employee lot that becomes available to the public beginning at 6 p.m. This lot is on the NE side of Fee Hall. Attendees can park in Lot 30 after 6 p.m. for free. The lot immediately in front of Conrad Hall's entrance is a pay-by-plate lot that is active until midnight. If you park in this lot, you will be ticketed if you do not input your plate number and pay for 2-hours. The Wharton Center garage is across from Conrad Hall. It is a pay-by-plate garage. Attendees who park in the garage will need to enter their plate number and pay for 2-hours to avoid receiving a ticket. There aren't any major events scheduled at Wharton for the 14th, so parking should be available.

High School Debate Teams: High school debate teams and their coaches are welcome at the event. If you are a coach and would like to secure seats at the event without having your students register, please message the Mid-Michigan Spartans and we will register your guests manually via [email protected].

Support the Mid-Michigan Spartans: As with all free events, the Mid-Michigan Spartans include a donation option for those interested in supporting the expenses of our club. This is voluntary and contributions are not expected. We appreciate those who support our efforts to provide programming to alumni and friends. The donation ticket does not double as a ticket to the event. If you wish to donate and to attend, please use both ticket options.
